Eugene D. Franklin December 29,1972 - August 20, 2021.
Eugene lived a life defined by talent, leadership, faith, and a deep love for his community. His legacy is the inspiration behind the Eugene D. Franklin Foundation and its mission to uplift young people through music, technology, athletics, and community leadership.
Born to the late Mary Elizabeth Bowie and James M. Proctor, Eugene was later adopted and raised by Larry V. Franklin, Sr. From an early age he displayed extraordinary talent and creativity that set him apart.
Eugene attended Frederick High School before graduating from Brunswick High School in 1991. While in school he was active in the marching band and earned recognition from the Who’s Who American Association. His love for music was unmatched and became one of the defining elements of his life.
A remarkably gifted musician, Eugene possessed the rare ability to master multiple instruments. He could play piano, electric guitar, saxophone, and drums with exceptional skill, and he was also blessed with a powerful singing voice often described as “like an angel.” Music was not just a talent for Eugene—it was a calling and a form of expression that inspired everyone who heard him perform.
Beyond his musical gifts, Eugene valued education and personal growth. He attended Frederick Community College and later continued his education through Liberty University.
Eugene was known for his charisma, leadership, and ability to bring people together. He believed strongly in encouraging young people to pursue their talents and in building strong communities through opportunity, mentorship, and faith.
His life and vision inspired the creation of The Eugene D. Franklin Foundation, an organization dedicated to empowering future generations through music, technology, and athletics.
The Foundation also celebrates excellence through initiatives such as the Eugene D. Franklin Foundation Football Awards and the future Football Hall of Glory, honoring outstanding athletes and community leaders.
Eugene’s legacy lives on through his children: his son, Nathan Eugene Franklin; and his daughters, Ke’Mya, Myriah, Shaniyah, and Messiah.
Though his passing in August 2021 was a tremendous loss, Eugene’s spirit continues to inspire the mission of the Foundation—to recognize greatness, cultivate talent, and invest in the next generation of leaders.
His legacy is not only remembered — it is carried forward.
