The Eugene D. Franklin Foundation

Founder and President of the Eugene D. Franklin Foundation. Born in Frederick, Maryland, to Mary E. Bowie and Larry V. Franklin, and raised in Brunswick, Maryland, Randy’s story is rooted in faith, football, entrepreneurship, and a commitment to serving others.

A standout football player at Brunswick High School, Randy attracted college opportunities from programs including Frostburg State University, Grinnell College, Duquesne University, the University of Hawaiʻi, and Liberty University.

He ultimately chose Liberty University in

Lynchburg, Virginia, where his life began moving in a different direction. Rather than pursuing the opportunity to walk on to the football team, Randy chose to follow what he believed was God’s calling into ministry. During his connection with Liberty, he also had the opportunity of knowing and spending time with Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr., the university’s founder—an experience that further influenced his perspective on faith, leadership, vision, and service.

A Scripture that has remained central to Randy’s life and vision is 

Jeremiah 33:3:

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.”
 

Randy went on to build a career as a professional truck driver, eventually purchasing his own truck, becoming an owner-operator and small-business owner. His journey reinforced the principles that continue to define his leadership: hard work, perseverance, independence, and the willingness to build something from the ground up.

Those principles became part of the foundation for his greatest mission—the Eugene D. Franklin Foundation. Through its Football Awards Program, Randy has created a platform dedicated to recognizing student-athletes, coaches, academic achievement, character, dedication, and leadership.

His vision extends well beyond awards. Randy is also the driving force behind the planned Eugene D. Franklin Music, Technology & Football Center, an ambitious vision designed to bring athletics, music, technology, education, mentorship, and community development together under one banner.

From a young football player in Brunswick, Maryland, to an entrepreneur and nonprofit founder, Franklin continues to build around one central purpose:
